Down At The Boat

Published August 11, 2017 by Libby

I’m still trying to get to grips with the promised ‘Simply Elfje’ e-book. Unfortunately life in general has been getting in the way, throwing a few bricks at me lately and this has hampered progress. Trust me, it will come.

In the meantime I would like to share a new Elfje Sequence that I have today posted on my other blog, “By the Wobbly Dum-Dum Tree”.

Down At The Boat

Morning.
The marina
comes to life.
Calm waters belie increased
activity.

Martins
twittering, flittering
around the boats,
among the rigging, playing
catch.

Hardly
a breath
of wind, barely
a ripple disturbs the
water.

Decks
wet with
overnight dew. Drying
sun beams down, set
fair.

Hello again. I’m back here briefly to tell you about my new project. I am in the process of preparing a book of Elfje poems. This will be both print and e-book and will contain many of my Elfje that have appeared on this blog. There will also be an updated version of the article on how to write Elfje and it is my hope that the book will continue to further awareness of this lovely little form.

There have been so many Elfje on this blog over the years and I can’t possibly include them all; this is why I have chosen to focus on my own ones. However it is my intention to include a selection of Elfje from the contributors to this blog and I have been contacting these people for their permission to print. Unfortunately I no longer have the contact details for some of you. If you have not heard from me in the last week or so and have contributed to this blog in the past please check your Facebook messages as I have used this medium to reach as many of you as I can. Alternatively please leave a comment alerting me to your contact details and I will get back to you, or you can reach me via my website below.

I will post more information about the book as it nears publication both here and on my other regular blog  at ‘By the Wobbly Dum-Dum Tree’ and also on my website at http://www.silverburnpublishing.co.uk where you will find details of my other books, including my new illustrated children’s story book ‘The Thirsty Flowers’.

_______________________________________________________

I began Simply Elfje four years ago, the aim being to bring this fascinating little poetic form to a wider audience. The guest posts that have appeared during those four years, from many different contributors, have shown that this aim has been accomplished.

People are now writing and sharing Elfje regularly on their own blogs, in particular I must mention my two blogging friends Freya Pickard and JulesPaige – you can read their blogs by clicking on their names. Jules especially has been most innovative in her use of the form. Few examples of this innovation have appeared here as Simply Elfje is dedicated to the pure expression of the form, but I recommend you read her blog to see what can be achieved.

I have now decided that it is time to pull the plug on Simply Elfje as I seek to reduce the amount of time I spend on the Internet. I shall, of course, continue to write Elfje myself but in future these will be posted on my other regular blog at ‘By the Wobbly Dum-Dum Tree’.

I thank all my readers and contributors for joining me on this journey and hope you will continue to write these simple little poems. In the hope that others may also continue to discover this little verse form Simply Elfje will remain visible at least for the foreseeable future.
