Bird
feeders refilled;
starlings gather first,
pigeons queue up behind.
Impatient.

Jackdaw

Published May 4, 2015 by Libby

Grey
the head,
the body black;
it can only be
Jackdaw.

Never
seen before
visiting the feeders,
today he returns for
more.

This Elfje pair is a companion piece to my post last Friday on ‘By the Wobbly Dum-Dum Tree’ which you can read here.

Waiting for Relief

Published September 8, 2014 by Libby

ocellus
everywhere, trills
of the monsoon
bouncing off branches and
rocks

chestnuts
barely ping
water swollen ground
fluty birds remain blended
hidden

peacock
swallows hard
blue shining body
small lungs laboring hard;
grunts
