Grey
the head,
the body black;
it can only be
Jackdaw.
Never
seen before
visiting the feeders,
today he returns for
more.

This Elfje pair is a companion piece to my post last Friday on ‘By the Wobbly Dum-Dum Tree’ which you can read here.
ocellus
everywhere, trills
of the monsoon
bouncing off branches and
rocks
chestnuts
barely ping
water swollen ground
fluty birds remain blended
hidden
peacock
swallows hard
blue shining body
small lungs laboring hard;
grunts

Swinging
bird feeder,
blown by wind,
presents challenge to garden

Distant
shots fired
to the skies –
one by one they
Fall.
What
chance do
the birds have?
Frightened and exposed to
All.
Man
is reponsible –
and woman too –
for frightening them to
Death
In
their fear
they reveal themselves –
unaware it’s their last
Breath
